Mom Diary – Week 3

04/01/2015

This past week was an eventful one with Mommy Connections! We had Jennifer come in to do a presentation on Discovery Toys and Mom and Baby Picture Day with Teagan Photography. With a room full of babies of all ages it was interesting to hear about toys for a variety of developmental stages. Passing the toys around was a great way to see what kinds of toys babies were interested in and how interactive they were. We learned about choosing toys that appeal to the different senses. Babies enjoy the different contrasting colours (particularly black and white), textures, sounds, and even scents. I had not considered toys with different scents before, so that is something new I’ll consider when shopping the aisles of the baby stores (or more realistically, the online stores I visit regularly in the wee hours of the morning! Although I really should get that under control before I go broke! I sometimes make some pretty silly decisions on things I don’t need at 3am. Anyone else have this problem??).

I have been really excited about picture day! We had some photos taken by Teagan Photography in February and they turned out great, so I am really looking forward to seeing how these ones turn out. I anticipated some wardrobe malfunctions, and packed my bag with three different outfits just in case. But surprisingly everything went really smoothly for everyone I think! My little one had been smiley all morning, but just my luck we could not do anything to get her to crack a smile. But that’s ok, I am sure they will turn out great J

This week I also got together with some amazing mammas I connected with in my first Mommy Connections group. We met up at the Terwillegar Community Rec Centre for Strollercize, a swim in the tot pool (28 degrees!), and a coffee. Loved the chance to catch up and compare notes. Meeting up at strollercize kept us accountable for some exercise. I find I am most likely to get there if I am committed to meeting someone (unless we are trapped in a nap or victim of a last minute poop explosion). Swimming is always a blast, and a chance to get some mom-talk in. We are all experimenting with solids at the moment, so we were sharing recipes, strategies and experiences. I had tons of questions for the ladies this week as I am flying with my little one for the first time, and she hasn’t pooped in 10 days, so I am really nervous about a poop explosion on the plane! They had some great tips and ideas for me to try- from pears and prunes to packing large freezer bags in my diaper bag for poopy clothes. I’ll let you know how that goes!
