Put Food FIRST! Yep, that’s what I said. As much as everyone wants to fight each other to get the best deal at the gym and go full throttle with classes, if you don’t change what you are putting in your mouth, you are going to be sadly disappointed. Weight loss is 80-85% food! In other words….you can work out until the cows coming barreling down the road but all you’re going to do is build a lot of strength and muscle that no one can see because it’s covered by a layer of fat. If you want to show off that tones body, stop putting crap in it!
Plan Your Attack. So, you’ve lived, 30, 40, maybe 50 years and you’re going to get up tomorrow and start going to the gym 5 days a week and eat only salads, right? Wrong!! It’s lovely to live in this fantasy world of “just do it”, but you can’t expect your physical body and your mental one is going to accept such a drastic change if you don’t have something to back it up. Get a calendar or day timer and SCHEDULE your workouts i.e. you’re gym days are Monday, Wednesday and Fridays (and this is assuming you have checked the gym schedule to see what classes you like). If not, you have arranged with the staff to create a program for you to do once you get there. Going to the gym unprepared is a NO-NO.
Work In Pairs. If it takes a village to raise a child, it certainly takes one to change your life. Whether it’s weight loss, getting “ripped”, eating better etc., doing it solely on your own is a recipe for disaster. The amount of discipline required will only make your job triple the work. Having a partner in crime keeps you motivated, strong, supported, focused and at the end of the day, will kick you in your butt to get your shoes on and go! So go find yourself a friend, family member or maybe even your partner and make a pact that you wont let each other down.
These are three simple things that you can do BEFORE to ensure that you have laid down a good foundation. Just like running a business, if you don’t have a plan, you’re up the creek without a paddle. If you really want change, you need to take a step back and make sure you have all your “systems” in place.
Now go get ‘em!!
