March 17 Mama Blogger: Sara Ryan
Sara is a stay-at-home mom and also has a little Aunty’s daycare. She has a 3-year-old and she has been married for almost 2 years to a hard-working man. She loves hanging out with her family – it’s her most favourite thing to do. Her second favourite thing would be reading.
Let’s Talk Birthdays!
As a mom, I love planning birthdays; picking a theme, thinking of ideas you know, spending hours browsing Pinterest, Pinning hundreds of neat things I am going to do for the birthday party! After spending hours on Pinterest I move over to that lovely app called Etsy and spend countless hours on there Liking all the things I want to buy or attempt to try and make. Let’s not forget to mention the time I put into a detailed list of everything I need to do and buy so when it’s time to venture out to do those things and buy what I need the list is… yep, you guessed it. At home!
Then comes the guest list – the part I really dislike. My daughter is only three so it consists of family and friends, but where do you draw the line? The column for ‘Yes, they are definitely invited,’ the column for ‘Well they did invite her to their party.’ and the ‘Didn’t invite her to their party, so do I have to?’ I find choosing who to invite stresses me out more than it should. I always find myself feeling guilty if I don’t invite people and never seem to know where to draw the line.
Now it’s time to put your Pinning skills to the test. I don’t know about you other moms but all that time I wasted on Pinning all those amazing things is just time wasted because, frankly, I didn’t find the time or the energy to be extra creative. So, like every year, I stress and wait until almost the last minute to get everything done. But always, in the end, everything turns out great.
All the blood, sweat and tears never seems to matter, though, when you see the look on their tiny little faces and you realize you would do it all over again to make them happy!
Here are some theme ideas that I’ve used for parties (this is seriously my favourite part!):
- typical first birthday theme
- Bubble Guppies
- Beauty and the Beast (that is this year – we have Princess Belle coming to hang out with us for an hour – we found her on Facebook at Page Storybook Princess Parties).
- Next year it might be something like Peppa Pig or the Shimmer and Shine Genies!
Here are some locations I like:
- Dino Bouncers (very fun and tires the kids out!)
- Chuckee Cheese (kids of all ages like this place)
- Amazing Adventure
- Wonderland (on Broad Street – hidden gem!)
What are some of your favourite birthday party ideas?
