As moms, we’re often in over our heads with to-do lists and our families ever changing needs. There’s no question why one-stop grocery shopping at the stores that have everything is appealing. But while the mega centres have everything from light bulbs to canned soup, we know firsthand that the produce section usually leaves us wanting more. How many times have you had something on your list but not bought it because of the condition? Wanted to buy local, organic real food for your family only to find “made in china” stickers. We’ve recently discovered one local service that can save you time and keep your family fed with organic, healthy produce.

Homegrown foods has been a part of the Parkland County community for over 15 years. In-store, you can find fresh food, nutritional goods, extensive gluten-free products and a wide selection of hormone free local meats and wild fish, but did you know they also offer a delivery service? We have had the opportunity to have fresh organic produce delivered bi-weekly for the past 6 weeks and we wanted to share our experience with you.

The ordering process on the Homegrown website could not be simpler. The shopper is able to customize every produce box to exactly meet their families needs and preferences. With a variety of options, there is something for every budget.

My “Dirty Dozen” Organic Box from Homegrown Foods

It’s important to my family to eat locally sourced food whenever possible, and it was really nice to see some labels from nearby sources. The produce that we received in our organic box was fresh and high quality. It was also a nice touch to receive the latest copy of Alive magazine along with our invoice. The convenience of this service is unreal. It is so nice to be able to have something crossed off your list without even thinking twice. Need more than just your fruits and veggies delivered? You can add any regular Homegrown product to your delivery!

Over all, our experience with the Homegrown Organic box program has been really positive. It is a little pricier than the average supermarket, which it makes up for in the quality of the produce. Definitely worth trying it out, especially with the horrible winter roads just around the corner! Visit them online at http://homegrownfoods.ca/ or stop in the store located at #10, 19 Granite Drive in Stony Plain (behind BP’s).
