Carpe Diem With Family

06/25/2012

Last week my husband’s friend in the states lost his wife and child. His wife was 33 weeks pregnant with their daughter when she was struck by a car in the parking lot. I tear as I write that sentence. I didn’t even know them, but their story is so heart breaking. He held his wife’s hand as she passed away after an emergency c section and then held their daughter in his arms for the hours she was alive, until she too passed.

Since hearing this story our family has spent as much time as possible doing things together. My husband works out of town and we are trying to stuff as much as we can before he goes back. We always have tried to as much as possible, but life happens too right? We have been at spray parks, playgrounds, local city attractions and even spent an entire day on the couch together when M was feverishly teething. It hasn’t mattered what we have been doing as long as it’s been together.

We all read a lot of stories similar to this, with similar messages. Im not sure if I’ve ever actually stopped to do more then spend a few minutes to think about it and carry on. Bit this time, without actually talking about it, we as a family have “carpe’d” our “diems”. We know we can’t spend every minute of every day together, but spending a solid week mostly “off” from the world has meant so much to us. We took the time to enjoy each other, be more patient with each other and just love each other.

So if you can take a week, a weekend or simply an afternoon carpe your diem and hold each other close. We are each other’s most precious things.

Take care.

That’s heartbreaking Jen. I’m happy to hear you are spending quality time with your family though 🙂
