I remember hearing the words…you are pregnant. I was so excited to be having a baby. The first of my friends to bring new life into the world. I never realized that this would be the cause of some of my friendships fading. after having my daughter, some of my single friends began to drift away from me. I was confused and didn’t understand what was happening. After a while I began to see that it was because we had less in common now. I ended up spending most of my maternity leave with family and friends. I never attended moms groups because I was shy. Not only that, but there wasn’t a lot in Hamilton back then for me to go to.
I truly think that this is one of the reasons why I wanted to be a Director for Mommy Connections Hamilton. I wanted to be a part of the groups I missed out on. I wanted to ensure that no new mom or mom to be felt they didn’t have a group of their own. It is amazing how much we all have in common. Our struggles, triumphs, success and failures. It is a safe place to come and talk about your journey, make new friends and learn helpful things along the way. Finding your “tribe” is the first step in belonging.
