Welcome back to our latest Feature Friday. Today, I’d like to introduce you to Brooke, who is a certified sleep consultant. Please read below to get to know a little more about Brooke and her business.
How do you help people?
I help people by creating personalized sleep plans to correct behavioural sleep problems and support them while they see the changes through. Most people suffer from non-medical sleep problems and by changing a few small things we can make a big difference. The main problem I see in younger children and babies is they lack the ability to self-soothe, therefore, requiring assistance to fall asleep each time they wake. For adults though, it’s more about stress management techniques, movement & diet and blue light exposure, among other things.
What’s your favourite part about what you do?
My favourite part of what I do is getting the positive feedback after they are sleeping again. I love that I can restore people precious sleep, and improve their overall health and happiness! It’s a wonderful gift to be able to give someone, I know how happy I am after a good night’s sleep!
What are some of your hobbies?
I really enjoy being outside and being active; I like to play sports or bike around to get my groceries and run errands. Being on my bike reminds me of being a kid, it’s my happy place J
What piece of advice would you give mothers?
From one mother to another: Cut yourself some slack, the fact that you are reading about your parenting likely means that you are an awesome mother, so don’t be too hard on yourself!
From a sleep expert: Remember that it is not guilty to want sleep, it’s beneficial for both mother and child, and your bond, to be well rested and happy. Sleep can be fixed, whether it’s yours or your child’s, we just need to respect the body’s natural desire to sleep and it will begin to love it again.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
I will continue to help families and adult alike gets back to sleeping through the night and waking up feeling great in the morning. I will also continue speaking and educating, so I can spread some sleep love around to those that need it; I truly believe the world would be a better place if people slept a bit more so I will continue on my journey to help that happen!
