Sleep Training and the Magic Sleepsuit – Part 2

What is Baby Merlin’s Magic Sleepsuit?

The Magic Sleepsuit is an innovative baby swaddle transition product that provides babies with a cozy, calming, and safe sleep environment. The patented Magic Sleepsuit is designed for babies who are ready to transition from the swaddle, yet still need that cozy, secure feeling to aid in their sleep. source

Baby Merlin's Magic Sleepsuit

In my own words? It’s fluffy sleepsuit that helps stifle the small twitches babies have at night that can sometimes wake them up. When I was reading other reviews people kept talking about how it stifled ALL movement from babies like a swaddle would. That is definitely not the case… either that or Baby Bear should be renamed Baby Hulk. He could definitely still move his arms and get them to his mouth to gnaw on his fingers but the little (healthy) spasms that babies have it managed to subdue.

It’s recommended that you use the Magic from the age of 3 months until baby starts rolling over and is designed for back sleeping in babies own space (it isn’t designed for co-sleeping or with other sleep positioners).

When I last left you, I told you all about how I sleep trained Baby Bear with the help of the Ferber Method and Baby Merlin’s Magic Sleepsuit.

Cue, 3 months later…

I’m about to disclose some mom truth right now so no judging.

1 month ago my tiniest human turned 7 months and I realized he was still sleeping in his bassinet (gasp) with his Magic Sleepsuit that was basically a 3/4 sleeve shirt and a pair of fluffy Michelin capris (double gasp). I knew it was time to transition him to his crib and to out of his Magic Sleepsuit.

I had terrible nightmares about the whole thing because I remembered transitioning Sister Bear out of her swaddle between 4 and 5 months and it was sheer torture. She didn’t know what to do with herself. I figured as soon as I got him out of his suit his sleep would revert back. Mother nature didn’t give me much time to ponder that thought as the weather started to get warmer. I tried to strip Baby Bear down to just his diaper and the Magic Sleepsuit but it was too hot for him.

Instead of making a big production out of it, I set up his crib put away the sleepsuit and laid Baby Bear down to bed. He immediately rolled himself onto his tummy and dozed off. If I wasn’t already sold on the Magic Sleepsuit, that moment clinched it for me. I absolutely loved that it wasn’t a crutch for him. He had actually learned how to sleep outside of the Sleepsuit.

What I loved about the Magic Sleepsuit:

  • Perfect for winter weather here in Canada! I put Baby Bear in a long sleeve onesie underneath.

  • The cotton lining on the inside is really soft! The fleece on the outside isn’t on the inside, which I really liked.
  • It stifled Baby Bear’s movements without constraining him. Before I got the Magic Sleepsuit, I thought it would be like a weighted vest the way some bloggers had described it. It was actually pretty lightweight.
  • It’s breathable so air can circulate through the sleepsuit keeping babies a comfortable temperature.
  • Babies arms are free. I loved using a swaddle but it always scared me that babies were bound so tightly (I know it’s soothing but still…)
  • Two sizes available – Small (3-6 months 12-18 lbs) and Large (6-9 months (18-21 lbs). Perfect if you have larger babies that can’t be swaddled.

Things you might not love:

  • Not so perfect for Canadian spring or summer weather unless you have the a/c on.
  • Little fingers and toes get cold because they’re uncovered. I solved this with socks on Baby Bear’s feet at night.
  • It gets dirty really quick (from who knows what). Needed washing often which made it get pretty fuzzy.
  • If you’re a fashionista of a mom or like things that look really cool (clearly not me if you’ve seen my children)… this is not it! Baby Bear looked like a giant yellow Michelin Marshmallow but he was still so cute!

So overall would I recommend Baby Merlin’s Magic Sleepsuit? Absolutely! It works as advertised to be the perfect swaddle transition product for babies. This was the easiest sleep transition I’ve had of all 3 children and as any mom knows, you can’t put a price on quality sleep!

Baby Merlin’s Magic Sleepsuit retails for $39.95 USD and is available at https://www.magicsleepsuit.com/
