Fave 5 Children’s Books

Hello! I am Mehwish! A dentist by profession, I am currently enjoying my life as a stay at home mommy to my three bubs, Zara, Hamza and Usman . Three under four is sometimes quite a juggle, but we relish the days engaging in different activities, top of which is reading.

Our book collection spans over the ages and these top five picks are ones that all three of my kids enjoy. The illustrations are beautiful and the content captivating!

1. Elmo’s Boo- boo Book

This wonderful book is an interactive one with flaps, stickers and pull- tabs! Reading this has not only inculcated empathy in the kids but also helps them recover each time they get their own boo- boos.

2. Five Little Ducks

This was a present to my youngest one from RGH when he was born. A sing- along rhyme, the story involves my elder two who enjoy singing and my 4 month old who happily listens to his siblings! The illustrations are just perfect too!

3. Llama llama Red Pyjama

This rhyming bed- time story is hilarious! The bubs enjoy enacting baby llama who acts out due to separation anxiety when his mom puts him to bed. A wonderful tale on teaching kids cope with separation in a fun way!

4. The Very Hungry Caterpillar’s ABC

A brilliant book on phonics, Eric Carle outdoes himself yet again. If you have an early reader and are in search of interesting books to teach phonics, pick this up!!

5. The Little Engine That Could

I probably will not be able to do justice when I try to convey how much the kids love this book! The story follows the journey of a little stranded train whose engine has failed. Having asked several engines for a favor to hitch it over the mountain, the train has been subjected to ridicule, scorn and despair till a little blue engine arrives! This book is a tale about the determination of this engine who believed he could hitch the train over the mountain despite his tiny size and outlines how his positive thoughts helped him realize his goal. It helps children identify how thoughts boost one’s own feelings of self esteem and worth. The engine’s accomplishment in the end almost always sends out a palpable wave of pure joy through the kids!

The list is by no means exhaustive. Our favorites are many! These are just the current ones on our shelf.
