When to take your Newborn to the Doctor

As a new parent we can some times over react to the littlest things but sometimes we can accidently miss the cues on when to take baby to the doctor as well. Since you are still learning what cry means what from your baby and basically figuring out your babies “Crying Language” it can be hard to know what means what.

Newborns can very easily and quickly become sick, so it’s very important to be aware of symptoms that could indicate illness. Knowledge is everything and will allow you to be better prepared. If your baby develops any of the following symptoms, urgent medical advice is required;

  • Fever with a temp of 100.4F (38 C) or more
  • Body becomes floppy or stiff
  • Eyes are pink, bloodshot, have a sticky white discharge, or eyelashes stick together
  • White patches in the mouth
  • Redness or tenderness around the navel area
  • nose blocked by mucus, making it difficult for baby to breath while feeding
  • Diarrhea
  • Forceful vomiting
  • vomiting that lasts for six hours or more, or is accompanied by fever and/or diarrhea
  • Refusing to eat
  • Crying for unusually long periods
  • Blood-Streaked Stools
