Nicole Betker is a mother, wife, rabid Toronto Blue Jays fan and a pop culture junkie. Always having an opinion or something to say, it’s time this journalism grad found a place to share her musings on the acts of “adulting”.
“It all happens so fast.”
“You’ll blink and they’ll be 16 and driving.”
All advice I heard, while I was pregnant and still hear now. I always knew life happens fast. Nothing good ever seems to go slow (I mean seriously, think of how fast vacations seem to go). But wow, where has the last 30 months gone.
It seems like just yesterday my tiny 6 pound, 4 ounce man appeared in my life. A little man, I wasn’t quite sure I knew what to do with. Now he’s 35 pounds of pure energy, ready for every adventure that comes his way.
It seems everyday he grows into his own and shows his personality. He’s smart, silly, goofy, curious and full of life. In fact, each day I see a piece of myself in him and I couldn’t be more proud. When I thought of becoming a parent, I always wanted to ensure I was instilling core values that were most important to me in him. And now to see him flourish and become a genuine and smart little man, well it makes my heart swoon.
Each day I work hard to foster his interests and ensure he develops into whom he is meant to be. He loves to cook so each night we make supper together and on weekends we bake. He loves art, so I make sure his marker lids are put back on and his glue is flowing. And I enjoy every moment. When he is happy, I’m happy. (Even if it means flour all over my dark hardwood floors).
So be proud. Your sons and daughters, are little mini you’s and the best part of you.
Take each moment in stride. Take it in. Breathe deep and cherish it.
