The very first time I attended a Fit Mum program at the Tri Leisure was 7 (yes, 7!) years ago. I hadn’t started Mommy Connections yet, and to be completely honest, when I registered I was looking for more of a social program as a new mom. I figured “Cool, I’ll make some mom friends and do a little strollersize while I’m at it”. Wrong. This program kicked my butt! Instead of leisurely strolling around the track talking about changing bums and teething, the trainer, Carmela, had us doing more lunges, squats and weights than I thought I was capable of! In the 7 weeks I was there, I lost all – ALL, of my baby weight. I was obviously hooked and signed up for another session.
When my second son was born, it was a no-brainer. As soon as I was cleared for exercise, I re-registered into Fit Mums. It was perfect. While my oldest son was at TLC Active Kids Preschool, I would be on the track huffing & puffing or on the field doing strength training.
Fast forward a few years. One kid in full-time school, and one starting at the same preschool as his big bro….and a surprise baby! Things have changed since my very first Fit Mums. There are more options in Spruce Grove & Stony Plain. More gyms offer childcare. More fitness programs let you take your kids along. I really did my research to find out which program would be right for me this 3rd time around. Not only was I working with a 3-child post partum body but I had also recently had another surgery on my lymph nodes. I knew I needed something affordable, something fun and effective, but also, it was really important to me that my trainer was knowledgeable and certified so that they could help modify and customize the workouts to my specific limitations. Which program checks off all those boxes? Fit Mums. And I cannot tell you how thrilled I was when I saw Carmela again, 7 years later!
