Mom & Baby Programs

Mom and Baby

Mom & Baby (0 – 8 months)
Learn, have fun with your baby, and meet other new moms in Newmarket, Aurora and Stouffville!

Our flagship Mom & Baby program offers new moms a unique opportunity to meet other moms, learn about local programs and services, and gather valuable parenting info – in a fun,  low-pressure, inclusive environment.

Each week features a discussion led by a local expert on topics ranging from sleep to introducing solids to baby massage. Following that, we’ll enjoy a fun and interactive activity for mom and baby – like yoga, sign language, or music – and an informal opportunity to chat with others experiencing the same challenges, fears and excitement as you are.

Each week features a discussion or activity led by a local expert, followed by an interactive activity for mom and baby and an informal opportunity to chat with others experiencing the same challenges, fears, and excitement as you are. You’ll learn valuable information about topics like introducing solids and sleep, and get to try an array of activities from baby music classes to massage.

We meet from 10:30 to noon on Tuesdays in Stouffville, Wednesdays in Newmarket and Fridays in Aurora. Each session runs for eight weeks, with our next one beginning the week of January 14th, 2019.

Mama Moves (0-8 mths)
We also have another version of our Mom and Baby program more specifically for mamas wanting a fitness component more than a discussion component.  Each week we try out/demo a different fitness class available in the community led by a local instructor.   By experiencing the class together with our group it will give you confidence knowing everyone is post-natal, are getting back into or wanting to start into a fitness routine and you have the peace of mind knowing you can bring baby with you to your workouts and everyone there is cool with it!
For this program you must be cleared by your doctor to participate.  The workouts are specifically tailored to post-natal women and are gentler in nature.  (No high intensity, “boot campy”, hard core workouts – but you will sweat and get a good workout regardless!)

We meet from 1-2 pm on Mondays in Stouffville and Wednesdays in Newmarket/Aurora.  Each session runs for eight weeks, with our next one beginning the week of January 14th, 2019.  Babies in this program must not be mobile (crawling) due to safety reasons.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How old should my baby be when I register?

A: The ideal time to do this program is when your baby is between two and four months old. That said, we welcome moms of newborns so long as your health care provider has cleared you for moderate exercise.  We also welcome ‘older’ babies up to 8 months, so long as they aren’t mobile yet.

If your baby is older, we offer a Mini Movers program for 6 to 18 month olds, and a very popular Travelling Tots program for 1.5 to 4 years.

Q: Can I attend just a few classes?

A: Single sessions are not available. A huge focus of our program is community building, which can only be created when a group is consistent from start to finish.

Q: Who runs the class?

A: Brenda Andrew, the program director of Mommy Connections York Region North.  She facilitates and hosts the class and ensures everything runs smoothly.  If she doesn’t run a specific program, another facilitator would be assigned to run the class every week so there is consistency and you know who is going to be there each week.

Q: How many moms are in each class?

A: We aim to keep classes at or below 15 participants to foster a cozy, community feel.

Q: When will I find out the schedule of topics/activities? Are the classes types/activities guaranteed?

A: You will receive a schedule via email before your session begins. A sample schedule is available below.  We cannot guarantee that a particular type of class (like CPR, yoga, or music) will be a part of any given session. Class topics change slightly from session to session and are subject to local experts’ availability. We can, however, promise you a great mix of things!

Q: What is your cancellation policy?

A: Our full cancellation policy can be viewed here.
